My Ministry as Chaplain of the Park River Good Samaritan Center began on November 11, 1998.
The society of Good Samaritan was founded by Reverend August Hoeger at Arthur, ND in 1922. Today there are 240 centers in 25 states.  The Park River Center, which is an 80 bed facility, opened July 1, 1976.
The motto of all Good Samaritan Centers, “In God’s Love, Everyone Is Someone,” is expected to be practiced by all employees. Obviously, the ministry of Chaplaincy provides many opportunities to put the motto into practice.  As Chaplain, I am scheduled on a regular basis to help with the Daily Devotions and Sunday Worship.  There are always the personal visits with residents for prayer, comfort, fun, helping with wheelchair rides both in and outdoors, being with the dying, doing memorial services, and just being available for the unexpected needs at unexpected times.
Because my ministry at the nursing home is a 1/2 time position, I am free to be involved within the local community. That involvement includes Hospice, the “Before School Reading Program,” visits to homes and the hospital, special help for shut-ins and leading Bible Study Groups.
